Grizzlies host Cyclone Taylor Cup this weekend
The best B.C. Junior B hockey teams will be in Revelstoke this week vying for the provincial championship Cyclone Taylor Cup.
The 2023 Cyclone Taylor Cup kicks off this Thursday at the Revelstoke Forum. Action begins at 1 p.m. with the Delta Ice Hawks taking on the Kimberly Dynamiters. This year’s host team, the Revelstoke Grizzlies will battle the Oceanside Generals at 7 p.m.
Held since 1967, the Cyclone Taylor Cup serves as the BC Junior B Hockey Championship. According to BC Hockey, the annual tournament is made up of the champions of the PJHL, KIJHL, VIJHL and the host team of the event. The Revelstoke Grizzlies were announced as the host of the 2023 Cyclone Taylor Cup in April 2022, which means they were guaranteed a spot in the tournament, despite losing to the Princeton Posse in game six of the KIJHL finals.
This is the Revelstoke Grizzlies’ first time hosting the tournament but is their fifth time competing for the Cyclone Taylor Cup. The Grizzlies claimed the cup in 1998, 2010, and 2019. They finished third in the 2022 tournament after winning the KIJHL Championship.
The tournament consists of three-days of round robin play, with gold and bronze medal games taking place on Sunday, April 16. A complete schedule for the tournament is available on the KIJHL’s website. Information on ticket prices and where to purchase can be found at seerevelstoke.com.
