“Shop local” has become ingrained in us by this point. With Christmas around the corner, you may be stressing around from shop to shop as the suppliers run low on skis and fancy chocolate.
Black Crows and Hestra gloves can be bought locally, but what about taking it a step further and buying something that is also made by locals here in Revelstoke?
The art scene is exploding in our little town, with anything from pottery to wooden Christmas ornaments.
So where exactly can you find these artisan delights mid pandemic?
Markets

Some of the Christmas markets have been cancelled this year for obvious reasons.
But Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre is still going strong with their Christmas market featuring arts and crafts from local artists, every Tuesday to Saturday until Dec. 19.
Pottery
The pandemic has made local artists start up online shops to survive the loss of markets.
Revelstoke potter, Gabrielle Labbe, depends on Christmas markets for a third of her yearly income. Now that her market stall has been pushed online, she misses sharing her passion with smiling customers. However, the potter is encouraged by the wave of people buying local here in town.
Or what about giving away a pottery course? The Visual Arts Centre hosts beginner pottery courses for adults.

Jewelry
Diamonds have never been very ‘Revelstoke,’ but what about a bronze compass or a silver Hemlock cone pendant from the environmentally friendly and local jewelry designer Kat Cadegan?

Knitting
Jasmine Brackenbury makes ethical beanies, scarfs, and mittens to keep the whole family snug this winter. Ocean Peak Design also donates proceeds from each purchase to ‘Compassion International.’
Or what about brushing dust off those old knitting needles yourself and make a personal Christmas gift? Ocean Peak Designs’ got you covered for knitting patterns and colourful yarn.
Art
Feeling a bit uninspired working from home? Investing in some beautiful art will make lockdown feel a tad cozier.
Vanessa St-yves paints on wood, everything from big wall hangings to little Christmas ornaments.

Gin and beer
Anyone who’s tried to make their own hoppy IPA knows that brewing alcohol is an art form in itself. As every mountain town should, Revelstoke has its own local breweries including Rumpus Beer Co. and Mt. Begbie Brewing.
What says Christmas more than Mt. Beige’s Stoked Winter Ale with the taste of chocolate, cloves, and cinnamon?
Not big on malt? Your jazzy Christmas playlist will go great with a little something from Jones Distilling and Monashee Spirits.
