The growing battle between the owners of Revelstoke Mountain Resort and local developer David Evans has caught the interest of residents as nearly 100 people turned up to an information session on Tuesday, July 19.
Revelstoke City council determined an open house would provide a chance for interaction and information before the formal public hearing next Tuesday, July 26.
Councillors will decide immediately following the public hearing whether to pass the third reading on Evans’ application to rezone his land on Camozzi Road to create his unique Camozzi Bench accommodation development made up of treepods and a central lodge.

Northland Properties Corporation, the parent company of RMR, have ramped up their attack against the proposal and its future potential, taking out ads in local media, creating the website DevelopRevelstoke.com and contracting a company to perform survey phone calls to residents regarding the proposal.
“If only they put as much energy in fighting us as they did in working with our community to grow this great city of ours,” Evans said.
Evans has responded to a letter written by RMR and Northlands CEO Tom Gaglardi and the claims of the website with his own letter.
Northlands is arguing that the direct competition that Camozzi Bench will create to their accommodation offerings will impact growth of the ski resort and in turn, the city.
“Ski hill growth is not financed by lift ticket revenues. The sale of real estate at the resort is what actually funds four-season infrastructure projects, future ski lift infrastructure, required snow making equipment, and terrain development, etc,” the company states.
The public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday July 26 at 7 p.m. at the Revelstoke Community Centre.
