Tractor-trailer unit catches fire on Trans-Canada Highway
The highway closed briefly Tuesday evening before re-opening to alternating traffic.
The Trans-Canada Highway west of Revelstoke closed briefly Tuesday evening after a semi-tractor trailer unit caught on fire.
In a statement, Revelstoke RCMP said on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. they responded to a semi-tractor trailer unit on fire approximately 10 kilometres west of Revelstoke.
No one was hurt and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined. RCMP said the driver indicated observing fire coming from the rear passenger tires after applying the brakes. The tractor-trailer unit was travelling westbound.
The tractor-trailer load consisted of mechanical parts on wooden pallets. RCMP said the timely rainfall helped extinguish the fire.
The highway was closed for approximately 30 minutes and re-opened with alternating traffic. As of this morning, the highway is opened in both directions.
