Revelstoke Legion Branch 46 opens back up for limited access

Revelstoke Legion remains under trusteeship but progress is being made with the help of community support, trustee Peter McKenna says.

Revelstoke Legion Branch 46 is once again open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for karaoke, trivia nights and lounge access.

“We are marching ahead,” Peter McKenna, Revelstoke Legion Branch 46 trustee told Revelstoke Mountaineer. “Things are coming into place.”

The legion was shuttered early March after BC Yukon Legion Command cited a number of concerns for the branch. Since then it has been in trusteeship as members work to bring the legion back into compliance.

One of the factors that contributed to the shut down was the operation of the branch’s liquor services and six different liquor license infractions, including the sale of liquor to guests not signed in by a member. The trusteeship is looking into changing the liquor and gambling license to better accommodate community demographics and current membership numbers. That includes continued efforts to gain a gambling license that would bring back the meat draws.

While not all previous activities are back up and running at the legion, karaoke on Fridays from 8 p.m. to midnight and trivia nights on Wednesday from 7 p.m to 9 p.m. have both started. With some legions under trustees being partially shuttered for years, McKenna stressed that community support for the Revelstoke Legion has been vital in getting things started back up again nearly three months after the legion doors were locked.

“Thank you for standing behind us, supporting us and being as patient as you’ve been. This community is why this legion is still here.”

Anyone purchasing liquor at the legion must be a member or signed in by a member in good standing. Those attending events must sign in at the door. Those interested in memberships can register online, contact 1 (855) 330-3344 or connect with Revelstoke Legion Branch 46 staff during open hours.
