Youthful new Revelstoke school trustee Amanda Richardson acclaimed

Amanda Richardson has been acclaimed to the Revelstoke Board of Education, and will be joining the board at their next meeting on April 12.

Trustee Elect Richardson was acclaimed to the vacant position on the five-member board that was left open following the departure of trustee Leslie Savage, who announced her resignation in late 2016 due to a relocation out of town.

Richardson was born and raised in Revelstoke, and she attended the school system here, graduating from Revelstoke Secondary School in 2014. She then attended Okanagan College in Kelowna where she graduated from the Administrative Assistant course in 2015. Since then, she’s worked part time as an administrative receptionist with the City of Revelstoke.

“I wanted to be a school board trustee because I believe that I will be able to provide insight into the lives of the students and will bring a new perspective to the board,” Richardson said of her plans as a trustee. “My intention is to be an asset for the board to connect with the students and the public in a new way. I will be a voice for the young people of our community and will do my best to advocate for their best interests.”

Richardson said she hoped to raise the public profile of the board, and to get involved with communications and college advisory committees.

Amanda Richardson will be sworn in at the start of the education board’s next meeting on Wednesday, April 12, at 5 p.m. at Columbia Park Elementary School.

Richardson was the only person vying for the vacant position, meaning there won’t be a by-election.
