Will council say yes to more beer?

Revelstoke’s Mt. Begbie Brewing Company has plans to expand its beer production and it may be another step closer in the bureaucratic process.
The company hopes to move to 2155 Oak Drive near the Coast Hillcrest Hotel, but has been dealing with zoning issues at the proposed location, which is a C4 Highway Commercial district. Microbreweries aren’t currently permitted in that district.
At the last city council meeting on December 23, councillors approved the company’s zoning bylaw amendment request and increased the allowed production from 7,500 to 15,000 hectolitres.
(We did the math: that’s up to a maximum of 3,170,250 US pints.)
At this Tuesday’s meeting, council will be asked to approve the zoning amendment’s first and second reading and if successful a public hearing date of the change will be set for council meeting on February 10.
