Weekend highway MVI east of Revelstoke claims two lives

Two men died after their car collided with a commercial truck on the Trans-Canada Highway

Two men are dead after their car crashed into an oncoming commercial truck on the Trans-Canada Highway, 15 kilometers east of Revelstoke, this past Sunday.

A statement from Revelstoke RCMP Traffic Services said a member of the Trans-Canada East Traffic Services was parked off the highway observing traffic and witnessed the collision, which took place just after 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 5. The statement said a westbound Honda Accord coming out of a curve lost control and swerved across the centre line into the path of an oncoming commercial truck and trailer. The driver of the commercial truck was not able to avoid the collision.

Both the adult male driver and passenger of the Honda Accord died at the scene. The driver of the commercial truck had no physical injuries and was able to provide police with dash cam video from his vehicle. As RCMP are still working to complete next of kin notification, no further details about the two men are available.

The highway was closed for approximately four hours after the incident, while police completed a scene examination. Revelstoke RCMP said the weather and road conditions were excellent at the time of the crash, but will continue to determine if there were any other factors that may have contributed to the crash.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Trans Canada Traffic Services at 250-837-5255.
