Revelstoke RCMP are asking for public help after a speeding biker fled from police, causing two other motorcyclists to crash at highway speeds in the getaway. Police want your help to catch the person responsible.
The incident happened on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Revelstoke at about 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 21.
Police say they observed the westbound motorcyclist travelling at “an excessive rate of speed.”
When the motorcyclist noticed the waiting police car, the driver then cut off another group of five motorcyclists, causing the two lead bikers to crash at “highway speeds.”
The two riders were injured, one of them seriously enough that the BC Ambulance Service helicopter was flown to the scene to evacuate the injured rider.
Despite the serious crash, the motorcyclist that police say caused the crash didn’t stop, and police haven’t yet tracked them down. The incident closed the Trans-Canada for half an hour.
Police believe the motorcyclist was later in Revelstoke.
The rider was on a sport bike and was wearing a jacket with white sleeves, a dark full-face helmet and a black backpack.
Police are looking for any information that would help identify the rider, including a licence plate.
If you have any information, contact Revelstoke RCMP at 250-837-5255.
