Update: Revelstoke SAR searchers locate missing skier

Update:

Revelstoke Search & Rescue located the missing skier shortly before 9 a.m. on Monday morning. He is said to be cold but otherwise in good condition.

In a statement, Revelstoke RCMP reminded backcountry and out-of-bounds skiers “to ski with others, be prepared to spend the night, have a cell phone and save the battery, as well as carry a flashlight, extra food and water, and tell others where you are going.”

Revelstoke Search & Rescue has been mobilized Monday morning to search for a skier last seen in the Greeley Bowl area on Sunday afternoon.

Joseph Stelcasky, 41, was last seen around 1 p.m. on Sunday while skiing the Brown Shorts run in the Greeley Bowl area.

Searchers are focusing on the Greeley area at the northern foot of Mount Mackenzie on Monday morning. “It is suspected that Stelcasky will most likely be in the area by Greely Road near the water plant,” said Revelstoke RCMP spokesperson Staff-Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky in a media release. “Police patrols of that area overnight did not locate Stelcasky.”

Searchers have deployed a helicopter in aid of their search Monday morning.

The missing skier was wearing a lime green ski jacket, yellow ski pants and green boots.
