Transport truck snags hydro lines, electronic speed sign, closes Trans-Canada Highway

A flat deck trailer hauling heavy equipment on the Trans-Canada Highway snagged power lines Tuesday afternoon, leading to a highway closure and other closures for electrical repairs overnight.

Revelstoke RCMP say the incident happened around 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at a location about three kilometres west of the Three Valley Gap Resort.

Police say the driver of the flat deck didn’t stop, and may not be aware they snagged the lines. The downed lines caused damage to some eastbound vehicles, and the incident also led to a variable speed sign being snagged and destroyed.

The westbound tractor-trailer was likely hauling heavy equipment, Revelstoke RCMP say, and police say they’re reviewing highway cameras and dashboard camera footage to locate the truck and driver responsible for the incident. They say the truck was hauling heavy equipment, possibly a loader, on a lowered deck trailer.

The highway was closed for about 2.5 hours. Repairs to the electrical system caused further delays through the night. The incident is now resolved and the highway is open.
