Three Revelstoke senior city staff changes: two new faces, one departure

The City of Revelstoke has announced new hires for senior staff positions. The news came in a media release on Sept. 21.

Ingrid Bron will take over as the community economic development director, while Dan Gellein will fill a brand new role as the city’s building services manager.

Bron hails from Westport, Ont. With a career in the field of provincial and federal levels. In a statement, the city said her previous municipal employment included work on challenges such as rapid growth with an unprecedented demand for residential properties, pressure on infrastructure capacity, and exciting new opportunities in recreation, adventure and cultural sectors. “Ingrid is a great fit for this position based on her education and broad range of experience. Ms. Bron’s knowledge of the challenges associated to rapid community growth will ensure that the city and Columbia-Shuswap Regional District continue to benefit from leading edge community economic development facilitation, strategies and implementation,” chief administrative officer Allan Chabot said in a statement.

Bron said she is looking forward to sharing her skills and experience with the economic development team to work towards supporting sustainable growth in the city of Revelstoke and the Columbia-Shuswap Regional District.

“The cultural heritage of the city, the lifestyle available to its residents, and the outdoor adventures that await visitors add up to a very exciting opportunity for my family and I, and I am thrilled to be joining the organization,” she said.

Bron begins her role with the city Oct. 15.

Building services manager to play new role in development services department.

In his role as the city’s new building services manager, Gellein will fill a new role as a member of the development services department as both an active building official and for managing and administering all aspects of the city’s building and sign bylaw, business regulation and licensing and other aspects of city regulations tied to construction oversight in the community.

Gellein comes to Revelstoke from the Municipality of North Cowichan and has more than 10 years’ experience in the building industry. You can read more about Gellein’s background here.

In a statement issued by the city, Gellein said he is looking forward to assisting  residents and the development community with their building permit requirements.

“I am also looking forward to the winter sports and recreational opportunities that Revelstoke offers,” he said.

Chief administrative officer Allan Chabot said Gellein’s knowledge of the building code and desire to build positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders will ensure the city and the development industry are well represented and that city staff in the building services department receive leadership and direction to improve customer service and satisfaction.

Gellein begins his role with the city Oct. 10.

City without a director of planning and development

In an email to the Mountaineer, city CAO Chabot confirmed that director of planning and development Nigel Whitehead was no longer with the city.

“I can confirm Nigel Whitehead no longer works for the city. Beyond that, the city does not comment on personnel matters in the media or publicly. Thank you,” Chabot wrote.

At this time it is not clear if the city is planning to look for another director of planning and development.
