Three Revelstoke Nordic skiers to represent Canada at the World Junior Ski Championships

Exciting results in Prince George last week have put Revelstoke at the epicentre of excellence in the world of Canadian cross-country ski racing.

Almost sixty Canadian women in the U20 category came to the trails at Otway Nordic Ski Club with the explicit purpose of trying to earn one of six spots to represent Canada at the Junior Skiing World Championships.

Skiers from almost every province were represented, and the result for Revelstoke Nordic was nothing short of remarkable; three skiers qualified. Alexandra Luxmoore, Maeve MacLeod, and Marlie Molinaro will represent Canada next week at the World Junior Ski Championships. And the best part is that for the first time since 1997, the event is taking place on Canadian trails. The three Revelstoke skiers will compete in Whistler with over 500 athletes from 37 countries.

You can hear the anticipation in the words of Revelstoke’s Maeve MacLeod, “Qualifying for World Juniors was one of my big goals for this season, and I am so grateful to have this opportunity. I’m super excited to compete on familiar race trails with amazing friends, family, teammates, and support crew behind me!”

Marlie Molinaro added, “I am super stoked to represent Canada at the Junior World Ski Championships this year! Being able to experience this with Maeve and Alexandra makes it so much more special. Thank you, all our coaches, volunteers, and teammates at Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club; we could not be here without you all.”

The World Junior Championships are held annually, and this year the four races will consist of a 20 km mass start, 1.2-kilometre sprints, 4 x 5 kilometre mixed relay, and an interval start.

This is the first time in over 25 years that the event has been held in Canada.
