Frostbite Series: The Funky Snow Monkeys host CD release party Friday

Revelstoke reggae band The Funky Snow Monkeys will be celebrating their first CD release at the Traverse Nightclub March 13. This is a milestone for the year-and-half old band.

The show is part of the Frostbite Series, Revelstoke’s spring music series that celebrates the thaw with live, independent music.

TFSM, which consists of Chris Chayko (guitar, vocals), Dave Marfleet (bass, vocals) and Jayme Wenzel (drums), make music more on the ska tip but are learning new songs each week. For example, the band has been working hard the last two weeks to populate their SoundCloud with new recordings.

TFSM has taken Revelstoke favourite intimate music venue the Last Drop Pub by storm. Since November 2014, they have hosted Reggae Night every Sunday night. Their party tunes bring out the best of the local crowd who don’t want the weekend to end. And for good reason, this band’s progressed a lot over the year, and expand their repertoire each show.

The Mountaineer has featured the Monkeys before. Read the full story here.

In that story, we featured their new video that was released in January. The Ballad of Johnny Butt is a Sublime/Rage Against the Machine mashup posted above.

Cover at the Traverse will be $5 and comes with a copy of the band’s new self-titled album.
