Last night the @naturalselection tour had an opening celebration at the Revelstoke Performing Arts Centre.

The 12 professional snowboarders picked the order they will compete in during the competition. Tour founder Travis Rice will be the first rider to drop in when nature picks the best weather window sometime between March 4-11.

From the March issue: a big international snowboar

From the March issue: a big international snowboarding competition comes to Revelstoke this week for the second stage of its tour. The Natural Selection Tour will be hosted in partnership with Revelstoke Mountain Resort this week from March 4-11.

The tour welcomes 12 professional riders and brings a slew of celebratory events to Revelstoke.

Ward Kemerer is a name synonymous with the Revelst

Ward Kemerer is a name synonymous with the Revelstoke Illecillewaet Greenbelt Society and the winter snow grooming efforts on “the flats.”

Chris Miller recognizes Ward in his contributed story “A thanks to award Kemerovo for the Greenvelt’s winter trail grooming.” Chris details the evolution of the green belt grooming methods and a personal anecdote on what the efforts of the Revelstoke Illecillewaet Greenbelt society @revyigs mean to him.

From the February magazine issue: Bean Business: Big Eddy gets two new coffee roasteries.

Big things are happening in the Big Eddy. Dose Coffee and Holm Coffee Company are expanding the coffee connoisseur scene in Revelstoke with two new specialty coffee bean roasteries.

Despite both being in the Big Eddy and both starting the same, rather niche adventure of coffee roasting, neither Dose nor Holm feel the market is over-saturated. Both businesses have unique plans for the future.

Kootenay Sounds is an initiative supported by grant funding from Canada Council for the Arts, striving to highlight diverse and emerging artists throughout the Kootenays.

Arts Revelstoke says they hope this project will help generate opportunities for the bands and connect and showcase these unique communities through sound.

New from our February issue: Community Connections

New from our February issue: Community Connections opens the Revelstoke Women’s Centre.

The centre provides several services, including counselling for women, therapeutic groups and help navigating different legal, childcare and income services.

The Revelstoke Women’s Centre is a space for women, by women, and something the centre’s staff say has been in the works for around ten years.

“The biggest thing is having a centre where women can just come and be,” says Lindsay Oberg, Clinical Counsellor at Community Connections.
