The Euro-Canadian jazz collective, Subtone, including St. John’s, NL based pianist, Florian Hoefner will perform on Wednesday, May May 9 at the Jazz Club Revelstoke, located in the Selkirk Room at the Regent Hotel. They will be performing from 7:30–9:30 p.m. Admission is by donation and doors open at 7.

The group will be on a cross-Canada tour supported by the German Goethe Institut. Besides Hoefner it includes trumpeter Magnus Schriefl, saxophonist Malte Duerrschnabel, bassist Matthias Pichler, and drummer, Peter Gall. Collectively the five have won prestigious awards like the US National Trumpet Competition, the Bass Competition of the International Bass Convention and the Stingray Rising Star Award at the Montreal Jazz Festival.

A rare phenomenon in today’s jazz world, the group has been playing with an almost unchanged line-up since their foundation in Berlin, Germany in 2005. In over 300 concerts on four continents and four CD productions the five musicians who were born in Germany and Austria were able to develop their unique sound that makes use of the full palette of colours available in a quintet. Their imaginative original compositions offer an inexhaustible selection, from voluminous big band sounds to a bare-essential chamber music approach.

Don’t miss this rare chance to hear him them perform in Canada!
