Stu Dickson takes top honours at B.C. Enduro Series Revelstoke stop

Local Revelstoke man Stu Dickson fought hard to take his rightful place on home ground when the B.C. Enduro Series came to Revelstoke at the start of the month.

On Saturday, September 3, racers gathered at Revelstoke Mountain Resort before riding up to tackle the Crowbar trail.

The timed course descended down the steepest sections of the trail ending in Upper Arrow Heights and conditions were damp, making for a classic Revelstoke rocky, rooty, and slightly slippery ride.

The timed stage on Mount Mackenzie was the precursor to a full day of racing on Boulder Mountain on Sunday. See the photo gallery above.

Dickson’s time was 28:40, 16 seconds ahead of Remi Gauvin by 16 seconds while Max Leyen and Evan Guthrie tied for third in the pro men’s category.

Leonie Picton won the women’s race with a time of 36:35. It was 10 seconds ahead of Laura Battista while Christina Chappetta finished in third place with her time of 37:47. See all the times.

Revelstoke Mountaineer athlete profile: Enduro racer Stu Dickson

Revelstoke enduro MTB racer Stu Dickson, 20, is the current B.C. Enduro Series leader in the professional men’s category, extending his lead with a July 17 victory in Golden (and now with his victory in Revelstoke in September).

He also topped the podium on June 5 in Kamloops and has solid finishes in the other B.C. Enduro Series races in North Van, the Fraser Valley, and Williams Lake this season.

Dickson has made the jump to the pro Enduro World Series (EWS), travelling to Chile and Argentina in the spring to race against the best pro men in the world, finishing 45th and 36th respectively. He’s scheduled to compete in a number of races in North America and Europe this year.

Stu’s career started with a summer job at Flowt Bikes and Skis when he was in grade 8. The job turned him on to the mountain biking scene. He got into racing seriously at 16.

Stu’s sponsors are Devinci Cycles, and Nelson-based NRG Enterprises. He also gets support from local bike shops Flowt Bikes and Skis and Tantrum Ride Co. (“I don’t think my bike would be running without those guys!”) In the winter, Stu keeps fit running a chainsaw in the bush for local forestry operations.

Q&A with Stu

Favourite local trails? “Mt. Cartier Trail, Boondocker, Sale Mountain, and Crowbar.”

What’s the Revelstoke scene like now? “It’s crazy how much this place has changed, even from the past five years to now. Every year it just grows in popularity, people know about this place and how amazing it is now. I don’t want to call it busy, but there is a ton more like minded people living/visiting here that all want to experience the mountains around us.”

Career highlights so far? “I think the highlight of my career is still happening, getting the chance to represent my hometown in a World Series is pretty special opportunity and I’ve been lucky enough to do it a few times now. And hopefully a few more!”

What are your goals this season? “Same as any season, ride fast, have fun, get loose, and crush some alpine!”
