‘Stripsters’ explained: Sister Gray plays the Drop tonight
What’s a stripster?
According to their hometown paper the Edmonton Journal, sisters Jenesse Graling and Brittany Graling are claiming they coined the term stripsters – a hybrid of hipsters and strippers. But according to the Internet, it’s already a thing involving Tumblrs full of shirtless Ryan Gosling pictures and … other stuff. (From now on, we’re sticking to the Edmonton Journal for our news, thanks.)
The Graling sisters are known as Sister Gray on stage, and they’re playing the Last Drop Pub on Saturday, Feb. 14, where they’ll be keeping their clothes on. (They coined stripsters for their video for ‘O’, a single off their 2014 EP Analog Truth. More or less, they were going for a hip, racy look.)
Sister Gray is a synth-heavy, guitar-based, alt-rock five-piece from the City of Champions. And they’re good. Jenesse and Brittany are the driving forces and they lead energetic performances on stage. You really get a sense they believe in the mission and are working on a more expansive thing.
They get into piano sounds, ballads, harmonies, Moog adventures and theatrically-inspired videos, too.
