Stoke FM haunts Revelstoke’s airwaves with community-focused Halloween Radiothon fundraiser

The ghouls at Stoke FM are haunting the weekend airwaves with a Halloween Radiothon that will raise funds for the non-profit community radio station and local non-profit community groups.

This weekend, representatives from community groups will host one-hour radio programs, some on Halloween themes, others on individual themes.

The station is running a Gofundme fundraiser over the weekend, where supporters can donate directly to the station.

Half of the money raised will support the radio station, the other half will be divided among the non-profit community groups who have volunteered to do a show.

Here is a link to the fundraiser. Their goal is $4,000.

The fundraiser runs from the afternoon of Friday, October 30, to Sunday, Nov. 1.

Community groups presenting programs include Revy Girls Skatenite, Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre, Revy Riders Dirtbike Club, Stoke Youth Network, Revelstoke Cycling Association, Aboriginal Friendship Society, North Columbia Environmental Society, Revelstoke Snowboard Club, Revelstoke & District Humane Society, and Revelstoke Community Housing Society.

In other Stoke FM news, Amaris Bordeau is the new executive director of the community radio station.

Bordeau said she’s looking forward to the unique programming each community group will present during the radiothon. “We’ll see how it goes this weekend, but so far all hosts have been really excited to participate — I’m really looking forward to what they’ll come up with!”

Bordeau said Stoke FM is looking to boost its programming efforts over the coming year, and the fundraiser will help them achieve that goal. “Definitely more live programming. We’re hoping to get more talk shows. We love music and the station will always be music first, but it’ll be nice to have a bit more of a dynamic programming schedule. Lerritt Robinson, a board member and host of Monday Mayhem, has a little art project planned for the station that I don’t want to talk about too much just yet but I’m really excited to help him see that through.”

Like all local media under COVID-19, the financial times are challenging, and the fundraiser will spook up some funding for the station. “The fundraiser will help us get back on our feet,” Bordeau said. “We have bills to pay! We’re getting a new website done, maybe bringing in some new equipment, brainstorming creative new projects.”
