Stimulate your senses at Revelstoke’s 7th Carousel of Nations event

The exotic flavours and colours of multiculturalism in Revelstoke will shine again as the upcoming Carousel of Nations celebrates its seventh year.

The Revelstoke Community Centre will be transformed for the event on Jan. 30, which has noticeably grown over the years with a large variety of food stalls and entertainment planned for when doors open at 4 p.m. to close at 7 p.m.

Every year locals are treated to a special opening ceremony by The Highlanders and this year is no different. Following the Scottish pipe band, Cori Derrickson, a proud Okanagan-based artist, will follow with an Aboriginal welcome. Derrickson is from Kelowna and will perform a native eagle dance later in the afternoon.

Revelstoke Multicultural Society organizers have also secured performers Yamabiko Taiko who will present a Japanese drum performance — a powerful mix of beats and strong movements that define this proud culture.

• 4:00–4:15 p.m. – The Revelstoke Highlanders
• 4:15–4:20 p.m. – Aboriginal and RMS Welcome
• 4:20–4:50 p.m. – Myra Morrison and Denis Severino (Appalachian fiddle music)
• 5:00–5:30 p.m. – Yamabiko Taiko (Japanese-style drumming)
• 5:40–6:10 p.m. – Wes Mackey (Blues musician)
• 6:20–6:50 p.m. – Cori Derrickson (Aboriginal storytelling)
• 6:55–7:00 p.m. – Closing remarks

Lisa Nguyen will soon be opening Minh Tuyet’s Vietnamese Bistro. Kevin Feng recently opened Kevin’s Kitchen at 302 First Street West, Revelstoke, B.C. Both will again show off their skills at this upcoming event.

Admission by donation.

Buy $3 food sampler tickets at the door. One ticket will get you one dish of food.

Coat check in the Boulder Room, $1 per jacket or $2 for a family.

The Revelstoke Multicultural Society is aiming for this event to be environmentally friendly. Compostable sugar cane plates and cutlery have been purchased and upon purchase of food tickets, each person will receive one set of cutlery to be reused during the event. Additional cutlery is 50 cents. RMS have partnered with the North Columbia Environmental Society and food waste will be handled at two location, which will then be sent off to Spa Hills Compost.

Revelstoke Pottery Guild will also sell handmade plates that can be used during the event.

Bring water bottles to use at the water station. Recyclable canned pops will be available for purchase.
