Spring Hawes declares candidacy in Columbia River-Revelstoke NDP race
The latest candidate for the NDP MLA Columbia-Riding is previous two-time Invermere councillor Spring Hawes.
A mountain biking accident in 2005 left her as a quadriplegic, but after rehabilitation and learning to live a new way, Spring Hawes has become a powerful advocate for accessibility and inclusion.
Hawes is the latest contender to throw her hat in the ring for the Columbia-Revelstoke riding candidacy after current NDP MLA Norm Macdonald announced his retirement from politics.
“I have had significant personal challenges, but that hasn’t limited me,” she said. “Serving my community is my passion. The opportunity to represent our region at the provincial level is an honour, and my experience in local government and as a local entrepreneur has given me the skills and understanding of what it takes to get the job done.”
Hawes, who is a former Invermere councillor, follows current Invermere mayor Gerry Taft in his own bid for the position.
Hawes is a longtime resident of Invermere, local business owner and an active volunteer.
