Snowbirds greet an enthusiastic crowd at Revelstoke Airport

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds drew in an all ages crowd during their meet and greet at the Revelstoke Airport on Tuesday afternoon.

Nicole Fricot, community economic development coordinator, and one of the event’s organizers , said she was pleased to see the large turnout.

“I’m really impressed by the multi-age crowd,” said Fricot. “The older generation were really excited to watch the planes land when they got here. The younger kids are excited to get their posters signed.”

Cpt. Paul Faulkner was among several of the Snowbirds pilots who were on hand to sign autographs, take photographs, and answer questions. He said the meet and greet was something special the Snowbirds planned for Revelstoke.

“This is something special we did for the community, because it’s only a one day show we’re doing,” said Faulkner. “We wanted to do something extra for the kids who have never really gotten to see a military airplane up close before.”

Faulkner also said that usually smaller communities like Revelstoke wouldn’t be on the Snowbirds list of stops for the season.

“We saw what a great community it was here, and we wanted to make it happen,” he said.

The Snowbirds will perform a non-aerobatic air display tomorrow (Wednesday, July 26). A public viewing for the event is being held at Centennial Park from 2:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Faulkner said the Snowbirds will attempt to do a “maple split”, a formation that represents the points of the Canadian maple leaf.
