Tractor-trailer head-on causes pileup, closes Trans-Canada

The Trans-Canada Highway was closed just west of Revelstoke in the early morning hours Tuesday after two tractor-trailers collided head-on, and three more vehicles then piled into the original accident. The incident remains ongoing as of 9:30 a.m. Mar. 7.

The incident happened on the Trans-Canada Highway one kilometre west of Revelstoke at around 1 a.m. on Mar. 7.

Police say a westbound tractor-trailer collided with an eastbound tractor-trailer. After that, two other tractor-trailers and a passenger vehicle crashed into the original incident, leading to a five-car pileup in total.

Two men and one woman were taken to hospital in Revelstoke for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

In a statement, Revelstoke RCMP said the roads were considered to be in winter driving condition with icy sections and topped with light snow.

As a result of the various collisions, there is scattered debris on the highway. RCMP said the materials were all determined to be dry goods and there is no suspected harm to the public or the environment.
