Revelstoke vigil to honour victims of Pittsburgh synagogue massacre
Revelstoke for Refugees and Revelstoke United Church will be holding a candlelight vigil in Grizzly Plaza on Saturday night. The vigil is to honour the 11 victims of the Oct. 27 shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as well as all those who are victims of anti-Semitic and racist violence.
The vigil will be led by Rev. David Cooke of the United Church. A member of Revelstoke’s Jewish community will also be speaking. All are welcome to attend.
Revelstoke for Refugees, though a group brought together to welcome Syrian refugees to Revelstoke, and the United Church, though a Christian community, believe that it is important to make a stand against racial hatred of every kind and to reaffirm the welcoming, supportive community of Revelstoke. A previous vigil was held in January 2017 for the victims of the mosque shooting in Quebec City.
The event happens at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 10 in the Grizzly Plaza band shell.
