Revelstoke Summer Street Festival heads into final week

The Revelstoke Summer Street Festival is an annual free concert series that runs every night in Grizzly Plaza in the heart of downtown Revelstoke, featuring a unique blend of local and visiting performers. Each evening, the plaza is filled with free seating as community members and guests come to take in the unique mix of performers. Grab a snack, listen in from a nearby patio, dance, or catch up with friends at the back. The shows run from 6:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m. nightly.

Aug. 23 Sharon Shook

Sharon Shook is a well known local singer who performs show tunes from musical films such as The Sound of Music and Disney’s Hercules.  Also in her repertoire, hear her sing classics like Under the Boardwalk, and The Tide is High. You may have already seen her at one of Revelstoke many community events, singing our national anthem at the Remembrance Day ceremony or the Canada Day Celebration ceremony.

Aug. 24 and 25 Robyn and Ryleigh

Sisters Robyn and Ryleigh Gillespie are an emerging country/pop duo hailing from Langley, B.C. Their sound is a reflection of their combined musical influences — modern blended with traditional country. Recently signed to Royalty Records (Sony) with fresh new music on the way, the girls are primed to break out on an international level. Singing about fast cars, boys, and hot summer nights, these girls are part mud, part makeup, part glamorous and part funny. The perfect recipe for a couple of girls you’d like to get to know.

Born and bred in Echuca, Victoria, Benny Walker inherited his passion for music from his father and grandfathers, all talented musicians in their own right. Music was always a natural path for Benny to follow, and his soulful voice and intuitive songwriting traces the full range of the human experience, from love, loss and hope to the simple pleasures of sitting in the sunshine having a drink with your mates. With an effortless blend of soul, blues, reggae and acoustic folk, Walker’s laidback style combines raw, powerful honesty with upbeat, catchy rhythms to create captivating music that you’ll be humming for days.

The name Devon Coyote came about due to this band’s unique sound, what they describe as a snarling, pure and powerful. Vocalist Devon Bjarnason provides sincere songwriting and melodic riffs, complemented with the smooth and sultry bass lines of D’Arcy Booth, and the raw, animalistic drumming of Rod Anderson. This group has crossed musical boundaries to create an original and genuine, high-energy experience.

Aug. 28 Stacie Byrne Duo

Stacie Byrne is based in Ontario, and counts pensive and melodic Canadian singer/songwriters Joni Mitchell and Sarah Harmer as influences as well as the power vocals of artists ranging from Alicia Keys to 4 Non Blondes. Stacie is joined by the fabulous Matt Potter. Matt Potter has been playing music for the past 20 years. His influences include rock icons Tom Petty and Neil Young. Staying true to the style of these legends Matt has devoted himself to achieving soaring guitar solos, lusting chord changes and irresistible melodies.  Matt’s relentless devotion to ‘good music’ in combination with Stacie Kathleen’s brilliant swooning vocals provide a great show.

Aug. 29 John Jenkins

Roots, Rock, Blues, Funk, Folk. Rooted in the heart of smalltown life and based in Golden B.C.  John Jenkins’ Smalltown Revival is a two-man trio show; John Jenkins on vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, harmonica, kick drum, foot snare and hi-hat and Jackson Baker on bass and vocals.

Aug. 30 Jodi Doidge

Jodi is a gypsy, currently living on Bowen Island, BC, and she is often found on self-promoted tours, living out of her vehicle and friend’s guest rooms. Her voice sounds like what you would expect if Dolly Parton and Leslie Feist created a love child. Jodi sings her own lyrics and music in a distinctly unique alt/pop/country style. Singing about love, relationships, transformation and etheric feelings she has the ability to transport you from your seat and into her heart. Jodi has a desire to expand, the gumption to follow her heart and the vulnerability in her musical ability to make it happen. She writes about Universal laws and truths in a poetic manner, allowing audiences to enjoy not only the sweet melodies but also absorb her synthesized cosmic wisdom.
