Revelstoke remembers
Revelstoke gathered for Remembrance Day ceremonies at the Revelstoke Cenotaph on Nov. 11.
The 2015 Remembrance Day ceremony drew hundreds to the Revelstoke Cenotaph under drizzling skies on Nov. 11.
Emcee John Opra, pastor Dan Meeks, Mayor Mark McKee, and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 46 president Todd Driediger presided over the ceremonies following the traditional parade down First Street.
Mayor Mark McKee spoke of the importance of taking time out of our lives to remember. He carried a bible in his pocket that his father in law carried with him to battle in the Second World War.
He reminded the community of the close connection we share with those whose names are inscribed on the Cenotaph. They were our relatives, our brothers and sisters, our neighbours, and they once stood where we stood today.
Legion president Todd Driediger said those who sacrificed in war provided us the freedoms we enjoy today, and that by remembering those who served and endured so that we can enjoy peace.
Driediger said it is our responsibility to preserve and protect the peace those who sacrificed fought to achieve.
