Revelstoke RCMP seek to identify driver who struck pedestrian

Revelstoke RCMP are looking to identify the driver of a vehicle that ran over a pedestrian’s leg early last week.

The RCMP said in a statement that on Tuesday, January 14 at 3:30 p.m., a pedestrian was about to cross the street at Victoria Road East and First Street East when they fell and slipped to the ground. A vehicle, described as a blue SUV with a tire mounted on the rear, drove over the pedestrian’s leg with both front and rear passenger side tires. According to the statement the SUV slowed and then continued to drive away. The SUV was driven by a female with dark hair.

The RCMP have two witnesses to the collision and are seeking to identify both the vehicle and driver. The pedestrian attended the hospital and was released with minor injuries.

RCMP hand out multiple tickets for driving violations during education campaign

Following the pedestrian hit and run, Revelstoke RCMP conducted an enforcement and education campaign for the driving public from Thursday, January 16 to Sunday, January 19. The campaign included Revelstoke General Duty RCMP, the Integrated Road Safety Unit and the Trans Canada East Traffic Services.

The campaign resulted in police issuing a number of violation tickets under the the British Columbia Motor Vehicle act for the following, which includes both passenger and commercial vehicles:

• 21 violation tickets for Speed Relative to Conditions
• 7 violations for Drive While View Obstructed
• 10 violation tickets issued for Obstructed Lamps
• 10 tickets for Insecure Load (excessive snow on roof thatcan obstruct others or cascade over windshield obstructing vision)
• 3 Seatbelt infractions
• 2 Inadequate Winter Tires
• 1 Fail to Yield to Vehicle
• 5 Impaired Driving Investigations (Immediate Roadside Prohibitions)
