Revelstoke RCMP officer awarded by anti-impaired driving campaign

This week a local RCMP officers received the Alexa’s team award for his efforts dedicated to removing impaired drivers from B.C. roads.

Driving under the influence can lead to tragedies. In 2008, four-year-old Alexa Middelaer was killed by an impaired driver in Delta, B.C.

Cst. Dane Storey of the Revelstoke RCMP received the Alexa’s Team award for his outstanding efforts removing 59 impaired drivers from B.C. roads in 2019. The award is named in honour of Alexa. He received the award on Nov. 23.

Cst. Storey received a letter from the Middelaer family, a plaque, and a RCMP Traffic Services challenge coin, says Sgt. Chris Dodds.

Dane is continuing his great efforts and has already surpassed his 2019 total, with 62 impaired driving investigations conducted this year so far, the RCMP said in a statement.

“Cst. Storey clearly leads by example with his attention and dedication in both identifying and removing impaired drivers from our roadways, in turn protecting all of us and our families as a result. Furthermore, Dane has demonstrated to everyone that impaired driving is always prevalent on our roadways, no matter the vehicle volume, day or time,” says Sgt. Dodds.
