Early in the evening on January 22, 2023, a loud explosion erupted from the inside of a cargo trailer parked at the Sandman Hotel in Columbia Park in Revelstoke.

The Revelstoke RCMP provided an update on the incident in a press release on Monday, January 23, saying they attended the scene and confirmed the explosion was from an enclosed snowmobile trailer. The press release says that the firey explosion appeared to have erupted from inside the cargo trailer, and no suspicious activity is suspected.

“So far, the police and fire investigation indicates that the explosion emanated from inside of the trailer, and there is nothing suspicious to indicate this was a criminal act,” says Sergent Chris Dodds of the Revelstoke RCMP. “Many people in the Columbia Park area heard the loud explosion and understandably were concerned. Luckily, there were no injuries to anyone in the vicinity”.

The trailer was fully engulfed by fire. The RCMP says that minor damage was caused to two nearby vehicles, but no one was injured by the blast.

Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services attended the scene and suppressed the fire. Sergent Dodds says the blast is under investigation by the RCMP and the Office of the Fire Commissioner to determine the cause.
