Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club athletes have successful season opener

This past weekend on Dec. 3 and 4, members of the Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club (RNSC) joined participants from across Canada and the United States for the first race of the season, the Canada Nordiq Cup US SuperTour.

The race weekend hosted 475 athletes competing in distances varying from a 1.3-kilometre sprint course to a ten-kilometre intervB.Cstart time trial at Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre near Silver Star, B.C.

For a season opener, it was a very successful event, says a club representative. Several skiers racing for RNSC were comireturningm injuries and sickness. While their eye wasn’t on the podium, they saw the event as very successful from a recovery point of view.

In addition, younger RNSC skiers got their first taste of international competition and are hungry for more.

The next race for the team is a smaller scale, Alberta Cup in Canmore, followed Okanagan Cup hosted by RNSC on home turf, December 17. An estimated 200 skiers of all ages and abilities will compete in the one-day race. Skiers in our local club and from the interior of B.C. will be in attendance.
