Revelstoke Museum’s Snapshot of History seeks best 150 historic photos

Revelstoke Museum & Archives is celebrating the 150^th Anniversary of Canadian confederation by choosing 150 historic Revelstoke photographs.

Snapshot of History — 150 Revelstoke Photos provides an opportunity for people to view some of the best photographs in the museum’s collection, and to vote for their favourites. Each Thursday, the museum will post a gallery of about 20 photographs on the Revelstoke Museum & Archives Facebook page. Visitors to the page can vote for their favourites in each gallery by clicking “like” on the ones that catch their attention. A total of 32 galleries will be posted until the end of September. The 150 top photos will then be mounted and displayed in the museum, and a select panel of local citizens will be invited to choose the top 10.

The weekly photo galleries will also be available for viewing in the museum for those who wish to vote in person.

As the project progresses, we hope to invite others in the community to help us select a weekly album. Anyone who is interested is invited to contact curator Cathy English.

The first gallery was posted on Facebook on February 16, and more than 460 votes were recorded. The winning photograph in the first round was a 1960 photograph by Estelle Dickey of 77 year old Edmund Woods, and one-year-old Henry Okumura, the oldest and youngest members of the Revelstoke Ski Club.

Revelstoke Museum & Archives is excited about this opportunity to share our photographs with the wider community, and to discuss them together through social media.
