Revelstoke Mountaineer Reads: New weekly summer feature for readers

Revelstoke Mountaineer Reads is a weekly summer book series featuring recommendations and insights from writers at Castle Joe Books, Grizzly Book & Serendipity Shop and the Revelstoke Branch of the Okanagan Regional Library

Revelstoke Mountaineer Reads is a new summer book series that features book recommendations from three Revelstoke book purveyors. The contributors are Samantha Robert, owner of Castle Joe Books; Kendra Runnalls, librarian at the Revelstoke branch of the Okanagan Regional Library and Vanessa Smith, owner of Grizzly Book & Serendipity Shop.

Each week until August, they’ll take turns sharing a book, books or other reading experiences with the community. Most of the works will have a Revelstoke connection, whether it’s a regional fiction read or a non-fiction work that will help you explore the world around us.

Thanks to Kendra, Samantha and Vanessa for contributing!

Week 1: Samantha Robert, Castle Joe Books

Spring, I find, is typically the time for some light reading. The weather is mild, the air is fresh and quite often you can find me sitting under a tree overlooking the Columbia, relaxing in my beautiful courtyard, or on the patio of one of our wonderful coffee shops with my nose in a book.

One of my most current reads, Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography, has counterbalanced some of the heavier reading I had to do while establishing Revelstoke’s most current attempt at a Safe Space social group.

Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography

Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography

I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves Neil Patrick Harris but more so doesn’t mind having people stare as you accidentally spit out your coffee from a quippy line such as — well I won’t ruin it, and let’s be honest it’s probably not rated PG.

Harris’ autobiography is a take-off on the popular 1980s Choose Your Own Adventure series and uses the old cliffhanger gags and pulpy styles to delve into the raunchy, sincere and funny page-turner episodes that have made up the life of the popular U.S. actor so far. Make the wrong choice and you’ll be responsible for his untimely demise!

I also recommend that people balance out their reading so they stimulate their mind but don’t get bogged down with the mechanics of the material they are consuming.
