Revelstoke Mountain Resort’s rail jam series returns

Revelstoke Mountain Resort welcomes back its evening rail jam series this winter season. Once a month, skiers and riders are invited to gather at Turtle Creek to share their best tricks.

Host, builder and the all-around “Dude,” Patrick Monteith was the mastermind behind the original jams formally referred to as “The Rumble in Turtle Creek.”

The first season consisted of four jams, used to promote the new park using all of the RMR-built rails and boxes. The park only had four in those days.

“Everything was hand-built back then, with no help from the snow cats, unlike now.” says a spokesperson from RMR.

The fun-filled event hasn’t happened since 2018. The events are scheduled for January 28, February 21, and March 25, 2023. Jams are held at RMR’s custom rail park, built on the lower Last Spike, lit by the Turtle Creek lights.

Rail jams are among the most grassroots of freestyle competitions. Grab your park set up and shred some steel in RMR’s village this season, or sway to the tunes clutching a hot cup of cocoa and watch participants compete for the top prizes.

Categories include male and female for both ski and snowboard disciplines. The event’s format is an open jam with prizes for the top three scores in each category and the best trick. Judges Karl Jost, Francis Courtois and Mike Graves will choose the top three competitors based on the best tricks, creativity, and enthusiasm.

“Somewon used to support the downtown rail jams when they used to go on in the early 2010s. And since there haven’t been any rail jams for years, we created the Grom-Con Series for kids to start getting the feel for snowboard & ski events. And now we’re very excited to team up with RMR to bring back the only rail jam series/events to RMR,” says Mark Barron, Somewon Founder.
