Revelstoke Mountain Resort will host an International Freeskiers and Snowboarders Association (IFSA) sanctioned qualifier 4* event on January 24, 2023.
The event will showcase big mountain freeriding at RMR, says resort staff in a press release.
The event will host 80 high-ranking international competitors, and the athletes will compete to earn points to qualify for the Freeride World Tour — a top-tier, competitive freeride circuit. The amount of points awarded is dictated by the level of the event, 1*, 2*, 3*, or 4*. Events with a higher star value indicate the potential to earn more points. Winning a level 4 event like the one to be hosted at RMR will gain competitors far more points than winning a level 1 event.
The course will be set up in North Bowl, between Sweet Spot and Meet the Neighbours, says resort staff. Athletes are judged on five criteria defined by the IFSA: line choice, control, fluidity, technique, and style and energy.

“Events like these are exciting to watch! The calibre of riding and athlete comradery is truly inspiring,” said Revelstoke Mountain Resort Event Coordinator Kate Roberts. “It also showcases our mountain as a world-class big mountain freeride venue, so it’s win-win!”
The IFSA event at RMR will feature two selected Wild Card athletes; this year’s spots were awarded to local athletes and Revelstoke Ambassadors Alex Jay and Mike Graves. Wild Card athletes are competitors selected who otherwise would not have enough points to receive an invitation.
“I’m excited to be included in such an incredible competition,” said Jay. “To have the opportunity to compete on home turf is a huge honour. I look forward to giving it my all in the North Bowl.”
Spectators are invited to watch the competition on Tuesday, January 24, starting at 10 a.m. at the top of the Ripper Chair. Following the competition, there will be an awards ceremony at the Rockford Plaza at 5 p.m. For more information, visit 2023 REVELSTOKE IFSA QUALIFIER 4*.
