Revelstoke Mountain Resort celebrates best ski resort award

After winning the best ski resort in Canada award from the World Ski Awards in Austria late last year, Revelstoke Mountain Resort officially celebrated the trophy back on home ground.

With the trophy safely transported back from Austria to Revelstoke, Revelstoke Mountain Resort officially celebrated their recent accolade as Canada’s best ski resort on Thursday, Jan. 19.

RMR president Graham Rennie, who travelled to the World Ski Awards in Kitzbühel Austria, told the gathered guests at the Mackenzie Common function it was no small measure in get there.

“Nobody knew what was going to happen in 2008, and, when the world was financially collapsed … and Northlands stepped in at that time, it was a very difficult number of years early on.”

“We’ve now moved the resort into a place where we have gone from a local mountain to a regional mountain.”

Rennie also mentioned the resort’s recent participation in the Mountain Collective pass, which allows holders access to 14 high-ranking ski resorts in North America, as another sign of the resort making it.

Rennie said new happenings for RMR will be coming in the summer, in partnership with the Revelstoke Adventure Park plans.

The World Ski Awards were launched in 2013 to drive up standards within the ski industry. Votes are cast online and the first nominee to reach a certain number, wins. About 1.6 million votes were cast in 2016 and RMR received its win on November, 19, 2016.

The French ski resort of Val Thorens took home the World’s Best Ski Resort 2016 title.
