Revelstoke is ripe for new business development, no debate

Revelstoke is in the middle of an intense debate about development, spurred by the application to build a shopping centre next to the Trans-Canada Highway. In the latest of our ongoing series exploring high technology development in the community, we look at economic development opportunities in the field.

Part three on an ongoing series focusing on developing Revelstoke’s technology sector

The highway plaza debate of 2015 has sparked major interest by both sides of the issue, and it comes down to urban planning, business requirements and jobs.

Sure “up to 200” jobs would be created, but downtown businesses feel threatened. Whatever the resolve is next week, one thing is certain, we need to work with the community to build a strategy and understand which sustainable businesses we require, and who would want to own or work them, in the main areas of highway, downtown and resort.

This is prior to good investors and developers arriving. We need to understand how best to move customers from one area to the next using technology, and above all, we need to understand what each of us — whether a visitor, resident or business owner — are looking for out of a product or service for us and our families.

In this series we are focusing on the world’s fastest growing, more lucrative industries for our community. Ones that are the focus of the biggest companies in the world and the new business in Canada.

The new economy is high-growth industries that are on the cutting edge of technology and are the driving force of economic growth. Oil, gold, real-estate, retail, pharmaceuticals … nothing even comes close to the wealth creation generated by technology innovation — and here’s the kicker, it’s just beginning, and it’s accelerating.

Here are industries in Canada and/or world expected to see growth and high wages over the next five years and most of these professionals are currently, or will be sought to work locally, for local companies or global companies on a laptop from Revelstoke. All can work from www.MountainColab.com
