Revelstoke Idea Factory’s new membership model is looking to remove one more barrier for community members wanting to access the space.

Potential members can now purchase a yearly membership at $50 and get one month free of equipment use. After one month of testing things and learning in the factory, users will be charged per minute of machine usage.

“Anytime you use a space you can just pay kind of as you go,” Idea Factory’s William Clack told Revelstoke Mountaineer in a phone interview. “There’s no cost if you don’t use space.”

Revelstoke Idea Factory new membership model is a way to help get folks comfortable with all the technology and equipment offered at the Idea Factory.

“Engaging and easy to digest” newsletters deliver everything you need to know about Revelstoke every week.

Revy news, straight to your inbox.

“That one month is sort of meant to get all the mistakes out of your system,” Clack says. New members can familiarize themselves with the equipment, trail project ideas and not have to worry about the cost of mistakes made while learning.

Along with a month of familiarizing oneself with the equipment and various courses, Clack and other supports are onsite to help share knowledge and troubleshoot hurdles. Staff are on site Tuesdays and Thursdays,  2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“It’s hard to get just an intro to the machine and then come back and start using it right away” Clack explains. “A lot of people seem to want to come back the next three or four times while I’m here. Then maybe the fifth or sixth time they’re comfortable coming in on their own and they won’t need any help.”

Clack says the Idea Factory has already seen positive feedback for the new membership style..

“We’ve already tripled our numbers. We have 15 to 20 new members that are on this new model, and they seem pretty stoked.”

The free month of equipment usage as part of the year membership is available to all new members until March 2024. The Idea Factory also hosts courses for available equipment with membership prices built into the course cost. You can check out what’s available at the Ideas Factory website.
