
The Revelstoke Grizzlies skated to a 3-1 win over nearby rivals Sicamous Eagles in the team’s regular-season home opener on November 23.
The team’s early season play has been mostly away games. The team is currently five wins and three losses after eight games, placing them in eighth overall in the 19-team 2021/22 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL).
The Oct. 23 game featured lots of chances but no goals until the second period, when Stavros Koutsantionis put a number on the board with an assist from Kaleb West and Bennett Kuhnlein.
The Eagles’ Paison Butler tied the game early in the third, their lone goal in the effort.
Brady Augot scored the second for the Revelstoke Grizzlies, who led in shots 43-31 on the evening.
The final empty-net goal was tapped in by Ethan Mattern on a breakaway.

The Grizzlies next home game at the Revelstoke Forum is Saturday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. versus the 100 Mile House Wranglers.
Although capacity restrictions at indoor sporting events were loosened on Oct. 25 for much of B.C., Interior Health is under regional COVID-19 restrictions, meaning capacity is limited to 50% of the venue. The Grizzlies listed 300 attendees at is Oct. 23 game.
In an Oct. 25 email to revelstokemountaineer.com, Interior Health said that regional restrictions remain in place in Interior Health and that the health authority would notify residents of any changes to the regional restrictions, “when the public health team updates the IH regional restrictions – they haven’t revised or rescinded the orders yet and therefore everything remains in place at this time.”
