Revelstoke Grizzlies take OT win in first playoff game versus Kamloops Storm

Revelstoke Grizzlies earn win in first game of their KIJHL playoff series versus the Kamloops Storm. Grizzlies Rookie of the Year Cody Flann nets tying goal, overtime winner and earns first star on the night.

The Revelstoke Grizzlies earned a close win in the first game of their KIJHL playoff series versus the Kamloops Storm on Friday night at the Revelstoke Forum.

Grizzlies’ rookie of the year Cody Flann scored the winning goal on a feed from Josh Irvine with about seven minutes left in the first overtime period, sealing the win for the Grizzlies, who are favourites in the series.

Brett Mero opened scoring for the Storm in the first. Evan Simpson tied it up for the Grizzlies at 1-1 late in the first frame.

The Grizzlies took the lead early in a the second with a goal from Cole Golden, assisted by Owen Hart.

The Storm tied it up and then took the lead in the second with goals from Jayden Castle and Seiji Brown.

Cody Flann scored the only goal of the third period, tying the game up at 3-3 apiece. Flann’s next goal in OT sealed a 4-3 win for the Grizzlies, and earned Flann the first star of the match.

The Grizzlies were honoured at the start of the game as the regular-season Doug Birks Division champions.

The Grizzlies play the Kamloops Storm again tonight, Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Revelstoke Forum at 7 p.m. The next two games are scheduled for Kamloops, and may return to Revelstoke if needed.
