Shoppers at Red Apple on Saturday were doing more than just buying toys to gift to children they know this Christmas. Red Apple stores across the country celebrated National Fill a Sleigh Day on December 9, with 10 per cent of all toy sales being donated to local charities.

The Red Apple store in Revelstoke donated the proceeds to the Community Connections Christmas hamper project. By 6 p.m. on Saturday a total of $1,674 had been raised via the National Fill a Sleigh Day campaign. Revelstoke Red Apple is incorporating the funds raised from Saturday into the annual toy drive they hold each year for the Christmas hamper project. This is the fourth year the Revelstoke store has held the toy drive.

A total of $5,500 was raised through the toy drive last year. This year the goal was to raise $6,000. The store has already smashed through that goal raising a total of $9,372 since the start of the toy drive.

The toy drive will continue until Thursday, December 14. In addition to toys, socks, underwear, non-perishable food items, toiletries and children’s pajamas and clothes are also donated to the Christmas hamper project.
