Update Thursday, Aug. 17, 10:50 a.m.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help raise money to bring in a team that specializes in underwater searches. Friends and family of Jared Szabo are hoping to hire Ralston & Associates out of Idaho to assist in the search.
“Family and friends, Jared’s wife and parents continue to search for him with the daily help of SAR. As I’m sure you all understand there are costs involved and we need help,” Jessica Cochrane, a friend of Szabo’s, wrote on the GoFundMe page. “We would like to be able to bring in advanced technology such as sonar, dive teams, etc. to help in our recovery efforts.”

Update: Tuesday, Aug. 15 4 p.m.
Cpl. Jaime Moffat, detachment commander of the Nakusp RCMP, contacted the Mountaineer to say that the search is ongoing in the Beaton area, and that RCMP remain involved. Earlier today, Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, who handles communications for the Southeast District RCMP, told the Mountaineer that the search had been suspended. It appears that the search is now ongoing, and we will update the story when we hear back from Cpl. Moffat.
Original story
RCMP say an aerial search yielded no signs of two men who wen missing near Beaton, B.C. at the beginning of the month.
Jared Szabo. 29, was last seen on August 1 in Beaton. Allan Ellsworth, 53, was last seen on July 31 in nearby Trout Lake.
The RCMP are currently treating the disappearance of Szabo and Ellsworth as unrelated. RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said RCMP have been unable to connect the two missing persons cases.
“We have no working theories that are conclusive that we are able to share,” said Moskaluk. “We have nothing concrete that we are able to share with the public at this point.”

Moskaluk said in the case of Szabo next steps will include monitoring water levels on the Incomappleux River. Szabo’s white pick up was discovered submerged in a treacherous section of the river. A search of the river has not been conducted due to high water levels making it too dangerous for a search.
“We’ll have to wait and monitor water levels before we can search the river more completely. This is the case in many instances where a person is presumed drowned,” said Moskaluk.
Ellsworth was vacationing in Trout Lake when he failed to return home to Kelowna.
Foul play is not suspected in either case. Moskaluk said the RCMP are asking for the public to keep an eye out for signs of Szabo and Ellsworth.
“It’s a matter of everyone being aware,” he said.
Anyone with information about either Szabo or Ellsworth is urged to contact the Nakusp RCMP at 250-265-3677, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
