Radio station to air Revelstoke Remembrance Day ceremony
Remembrance Day ceremonies across Canada taking place virtually as restrictions continue on in-person gatherings
2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. In years past Revelstoke’s Remembrance Day ceremony has included a parade down Mackenzie Avenue, ending at the local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion with speeches and laying of the wreaths at the cenotaph.
Revelstoke Remembrance Day stories and speeches to air on EZ Rock
Tomorrow, November 11, Revelstoke will still remember, but current restrictions on physical gatherings due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic mean the usual gathering of community members along First Street between the cenotaph and the Legion won’t take place. Instead, the Revelstoke Legion has arranged for wreaths to be pre-placed. Local speeches will take place, but without the usual crowd. Community members are discouraged from attending the ceremony and can instead listen to the speeches and stories on 106.1 FM EZ Rock beginning at 11 a.m.
Here’s a look at other Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place virtually this year:
Virtual National Remembrance Day Ceremony to include fly-past of three Second World War planes
The Royal Canadian Legion will stream the National Remembrance Day Ceremony from its Facebook page. Held in Ottawa, this year’s ceremony is still proceeding but attendance is capped at 100 people, mainly government officials and police, who will gather near the perimeter of the National War Memorial.
This year’s national ceremony will also differ with the usual march past cancelled due to gathering restrictions related to the ongoing pandemic. Instead, the Legion has partnered with Veteran’s Affairs Canada to arrange a symbolic fly-past of three heritage planes used during the Second World War.
