RAA’s Thom Tischik bids goodbye to Revelstoke
Travel Penticton has been snapped up Revelstoke’s respected marketing guru Thom Tischik. Tischik has spent nearly 20 years boosting Revelstoke’s name and he believes the city has matured in his time to become a world class destination.
After nearly 20 years in Revelstoke, Thom Tischik is finishing up and heading to Penticton as Travel Penticton’s chief executive officer.
The opportunity came unexpectedly for the business head in Revelstoke. Tischik began promoting Revelstoke tourism back in 1998 as the tourism marketing coordinator with the Chamber of Commerce before moving on later to become the chamber’s executive director.
In 2008 he began working, remotely from his Vernon base, with the Revelstoke Accommodation Association.
Since then, Tischik said the scope of tourism in Revelstoke has changed dramatically and in turn his travel has increased.
“I felt it was time to evaluate this carefully, especially with all of the driving, and I decided that it was time to let the position go,” Tischik said. “I also felt that Revelstoke may be better served with someone on-site all of the time. It was not an easy decision and I will miss Revelstoke and all of the people here.”
The RAA has begun the process of hiring Tischik’s replacement.
Revelstoke invests time into its marketing to attract tourists and Tischik said this has paid off as Tourism Revelstoke has become a highly respected destination marketing organization within B.C.
“I am very pleased with the level of professionalism we bring to the marketplace,” Tischiks said. “Since 1998, I have watched Revelstoke grow and mature from a railway town to a world class destination that has attracted international recognition as a premiere adventure destination.
“I think proof of this is in the number of new people who have moved to Revy, started businesses and believe in the community’s future. [It’s] impressive and I feel proud to have played a small part in that.”
