A pride celebration hosted by Queer Shred Revelstoke, an inclusive multi-sport group, welcomes everyone to their family-friendly event hosted at Kovach Park. The group organized the event to celebrate Revelstoke’s queer community with an afternoon of activities, including live music, art, skateboarding, and food trucks.
The event will take place Sunday, August 21, from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Kovach Park.
Event organizers emphasize the event’s inclusivity: “You don’t have to be queer, but you do have to be kind,” the event description on Facebook reads.
Queer Shred Revelstoke co-founder Emma Kelly says the group started in the winter of 2021 as a club for individuals to meet up and ski or snowboard. Emma says the group continued to meet into the summer season and has since organized events for skateboarding, biking, and general meet-ups.

Emma says Queer Shred is an inclusive community that is very beginner-friendly and a space where people can feel comfortable being themselves.
“So many spaces that we’ve created in this town are harder to access for a queer person,” Emma says. “So I think having this above-ground city-supported event at the skate park, which is such a central location, really makes it a space that anyone can get to, and anyone who wants to come should feel safe, and I hope they do feel safe to come.”
Queer Shred encourages attendees to bring blankets or chairs to lounge and enjoy the festivities. They also recommend bringing a white cotton tee shirt to tie dye. But, most importantly, they encourage everyone to connect with the queer community by relaxing and celebrating the festivities.
“Pride events serve to strengthen the community and spread awareness and inclusivity in a safe and joy-filled way,” writes Queer Shred event organizers on social media.
The event is sponsored by Tourism Revelstoke, Flowt Bikes and Skis, Fable Book Parlour, and Silverwinds.
