Potential COVID-19 exposures at Revelstoke’s Begbie View Elementary

School exposures on June 1, 2, and 3 at Begbie View Elementary prompts self-isolation for students, staff.

Two classes of students and a number of staff at Revelstoke’s Begbie View Elementary School will be self-isolating in the coming days following notification of a COVID-19 exposure at the school.

According to Interior Health’s school exposures webpage, there were “potential” COVID-19 exposures at the school on June 1, 2 and 3.

In a June 11 statement published on the School District No. 19 website, district Superintendent Mike Hooker said the school district was advised of the potential exposure on June 10. “Today we were advised that a member of the Begbie View Elementary School community tested positive for COVID-19.”

The statement said health authorities have been conducting contact tracing and that some staff and students in a grade 4 and another grade 3-4 class have been asked to self-isolate.

“Although the case count in Revelstoke has been very low, and even at zero in the past number of weeks, this is not an unexpected situation,” Hooker wrote. “Thanks for your ongoing support of your own children and by extension, all of our children.”

The statement encouraged school community members who have questions to reach out to the school district.
