Police seek two witnesses in Highway 23 North MVI fatality after new details emerge

The RCMP are seeking two witnesses following a fatal MVI on Highway 23 North on Saturday, and new details provided by the RCMP add more information to the original story.

On Sunday, police said that a 35-year-old Alberta man was standing next to his pickup/camper unit on Highway 23 North when he was struck by a flat deck commercial truck at a location about 90 kilometres north of Revelstoke. They said the incident happened around 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. Police said that charges were pending against the driver of the commercial vehicle.

In a subsequent May 1 media release, the RCMP’s Trans-Canada East Traffic Services added new details about the incident, and are seeking two witnesses who may have called a tow truck earlier in the day.

Police are now saying the victim was a 31-year-old man from Grande Prairie, Alberta. Police now say the man who was killed was struck by a tow truck. Originally, police had described the vehicle as a flat-deck commercial truck.

In a statement, RCMP E Division spokesperson Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau appealed for the two witnesses to come forward: “Police have also determined that at 11 a.m. two unknown men described as fishermen may have stopped at Mica Hydro village and asked for assistance in calling a tow truck for a stranded motorist in a truck and camper pulling a boat and trailer. An employee at the camp assisted in providing the phone numbers for several tow companies in Revelstoke and left the men to call using the public phone in the building.”

Police say they believe the two men may have more information that could help the investigation. They are asked to call the Revelstoke RCMP detachment at 250-837-5255.
