Revelstoke’s strong tourism sector is a perfect match for Okanagan College to pilot its new Tourism Management Diploma program.

The two year diploma program will provide education for students interested in a career in many different aspects of tourism management, including the hotel and restaurant sectors. The diploma program is designed to provide students with real-world knowledge, skills and opportunities in the tourism sector. The program also includes a co-op component where students will be able to take part in a work practicum.

Mary Kline, program coordinator for Okanagan College Revelstoke, said a number of Revelstoke tourism-sector employers provided support for the program and its co-op component.

“Revelstoke has a vibrant, healthy well-respected tourism sector. It’s a big thing for the college to be able to bring in a tourism program,” she said.

The program is currently in a recruitment phase with a decision still to be made on an official start date of either fall 2019 or fall 2020, depending on interest. The college is holding an information centre about the Tourism Management Diploma tonight, Monday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. at Okanagan College Revelstoke in room 104. The college is located at 1401 First Street West. Okanagan College’s director of Food, Wine, and Tourism Jonathan Rouse will be at the information event to help answer any questions.
