New pro challenge at Revelstoke Timber Day

Revelstoke Timber Day takes place on Sept. 12 and features the return of top competitors in the pro challenge, in addition to many events and disciplines open to Revelstoke residents.

A new, exciting pro challenge shouldn’t be missed at Revelstoke Timber Day on September 12 in Centennial Park.

For 2015, Timber Day is part of the new Revelstoke Heritage Celebration Weekend which combines the best of Timber Day, Railway Days, and Celebrate the Summit into one fantastic weekend — along with the 15th Annual Little Bear Soccer Tournament, the 4th Annual Revelstoke BikeFest and a sidewalk sale. The whole family will be kept busy!

Mitchell Hewitt, the current world champion springboard axemen from Scotch Creek, B.C. and Kat Spencer, a gutsy lady competitor from Alberta will team up against Jesse Whitehead, a New Zealand native, and Katelan Steward of Chetwynd, B.C. Jesse is the Canadian springboard champion and a top speed tree climber. Katelan is the Canadian champion in the ladies underhand chop, a winning log birler and the only Canadian female to advance to the professional division for obstacle pole bucking — an event that requires strength, balance and agility.

‘We’re really looking forward to this new Pro Challenge to showcase the higher skilled logging sports events that we’re not yet able to host with local competitors,” said Nadine Overwater from the organizing committee. “Professional tree climbing, log birling, chopping and bucking is thrilling to watch.”

Local men and women are invited to join in axe throwing, bucking, relay and fun logging sports events to win generous prize money. Pre-registration for local competitors is best at http://www.revelstoketimberdays.ca/.

For those who stay away from axes and saws, but are good in the kitchen, there’s a berry bake-off, where huckleberries reign, but other berries are welcome. Or if you prefer eating, the berry bake-off entries are auctioned off, including the coveted winners.
