New exhibition at the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre

With the opening night on Friday September 9, the newest exhibitions at the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre will run until September 30. All are welcome.

Pattern Play Members Show

Patterns have played a key role in art throughout history, from Greek temple ornamentation, to floral decoration of Islamic art and architecture, to textiles from around the world. 

For this exhibition, Artists explore repeated motifs and designs in any medium and subject matter. Some Artists look to natural occurring patterns in our environment, while others reference the repeated patterns which exist in our technological, and digital world.

Pattern is explored purely for its decorative qualities, and also used as a framework or structure, such as a set of rules during the art making process.

Passion and Perspective Members Show

Artists have long used their artwork to explore their passions and create critical dialogue on issues they hold conviction for.

Contemporary and political artists use their mediums to explore and comment on the current happenings in today’s world. For this exhibition, Artists explore subject matter which they feel passionate about, creating work in any medium. 

In some works, subject matter is a personal or private viewpoint, strongly held by that artist. For others, the resulting artwork involves a wider statement on current issues which affect people around the world.
