New executive director for the Revelstoke Women’s Shelter Society

The Revelstoke Women’s Shelter Society has welcomed new executive director Allie Bruni following the retirement of Nelli Richardson.

Bruni, originally from Northern California, came to Revelstoke in 2012 with her husband and began her new role with the shelter late last year.

“I am deeply honoured to be in this new role with the shelter and delighted to learn and work alongside our experienced and passionate staff,” Bruni said. “It’s a blessing to be in such an important role where that allows me the opportunity to bring my skill-set to support those in need.”

Previous executive director Nelli Richardson was in the role for over 10 years.

“Nelli did an incredible job with the organization and I look forward to building off her success and loyalty that she gave to the shelter,” Bruni said.

Bruni began working in the non-profit sector in 2004, with a transformative experience working with youth of the Team Summit Ski and Snowboard Team in Colorado. Over the last decade, Bruni’s role with various arts, culture and yoga organizations has evolved and grown.

Prior to her development role within the non-profit sectors, Bruni was a production manager in the television and movie industry in L.A. and beyond. She also was an administrator, teacher and student of the Mount Madonna Yoga and Ayurveda Institute in Santa Cruz.

Bruni carries on this work in Revelstoke, teaching yoga and meditation at Balu Yoga and Wellness.

As executive director of the Revelstoke Women’s Shelter Society, Bruni will aim to further cultivate and expand meaningful collaborations between the organisation’s supporters and strengthen community partnerships. She brings to her role a special focus on ensuring programs and initiatives are culturally-based and holistic.

Guided by the shelter’s mandate, to provide a safe short-term refuge and support to women (and their children) at risk of all forms of abuse, Bruni and the shelter’s dedicated staff look to raise awareness about the organisation and its various educational programs.

The shelter offers essential life-skills training and holistic therapy programs via its Moving Forward program. All classes are free of charge for those in need of support.

“Our doors are always open, and we feel our programs inspire confidence to those in need,” Bruni said.
